As a Lead Engineering Technician on Zoox’s Base Operation team, you will be responsible for the setup and execution of tests on Zoox development vehicles. This includes planning tests, organizing and installing test equipment, updating the vehicle to desired test configuration, and executing tests according to the requestor’s test procedures. Testing will be required on various vehicle systems, such as vehicle performance, crash testing, noise and vibration, thermal performance, strength, and durability. You will utilize your expertise in one or more of these areas to support these testing activities and work closely with the responsible attribute leads. As a Lead Technician, you will supervise and lead a team of individuals to carry out repairs, test prep, development, and ensure vehicle uptime is at its highest potential. You will keep your team aligned with milestones and provide support in ensuring goals and objectives are met. You will develop key performance indicators for your team members and aid them in reaching their and Zoox’s mission. Responsibilities Execute vehicle level test requests with a focus on accuracy and thoroughness. Work with engineering to select the appropriate testing sensors and perform sensor installation. Work with vehicle engineering teams to perform setup and configuration of DAQ and test systems. Support preparing of test parts and updating of test vehicle(s) as dictated by the test requirements/requests. Coordinate logistic requirements for vehicles, equipment, and parts as dictated by the test requests. Execute tests, including collecting data as required. Engagement in the recruiting and hiring process for workshop personnel. Provides new-hire onboarding, training, and communicating expectations.  Creates and manages employee schedules, including time-off.  Enforces all health and safety policies in the workshop. Works with facilities on equipment and machinery maintenance. Ensures the workshop area is clean, organized, and free of dangerous and/or hazardous material. Assists in repairs, upgrades, maintenance and other tasks involved in fleet operations. Manages workflow by allocating resources based on skill sets and ensures the job is done to internal quality standards. Manages work orders and ensures they meet internal quality and documentation standards. Support wiring harness builds and the supporting documentation. Support the analysis, documentation, and reporting of data as necessary. Support root cause analysis of component and full vehicle level issues. Perform vehicle level inspections, maintenance, and repairs. Qualifications Extensive knowledge of methods, techniques, parts, tools, and materials used in the maintenance and repair of vehicles. Experience working with test equipment in one or more areas like NVH, vehicle dynamics, thermal, strength, and durability. Extensive knowledge of CAN/LIN, wiring diagrams, wiring repair, and soldering is highly preferred. 5+ years of technician experience 2+ years of leadership experience Ability to travel locally and nationally (50%, or more, of the time). Clean driving record Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects/deliverables. Team player that collaborates well cross-functionally. Excellent written and verbal skills. Must be honest, responsible and an outstanding communicator. Bonus Qualifications Experience in an automotive-focused engineering or research lab (i.e. Dyno, Battery, etc.). Experience with vehicle alignments and required adjustments.  Experience with ADAS, and/or autonomous platforms. General understanding of electric vehicle architecture.  Technical trade school certificate or Associate Degree in automotive repair. As a Manufacturing Electrical Test Engineer, you will work within a multidisciplinary engineering team to build / test prototype sensor and compute hardware. The successful candidate for this position will be responsible for the development of manufacturing functional tests for PCBAs, subassemblies and final products. The candidate will also define test strategy and manufacturing test plan for the new products to ensure product functionality is tested appropriately in a low-volume manufacturing environment. In this role, the test engineer will convert product performance specifications into a workable test solution. The candidate will participate in creating automated and manual test plans, perform hands-on device measurements, product characterization and optimization, bench and automation troubleshooting. Candidate will summarize and present data reviews which will serve as a basis for product acceptance and release to our vehicle integration team. Responsibilities You will be working closely with the circuit design engineers and manufacturing engineers to ensure that electronics for Zoox's robots are manufactured to high standards.  Support and improve ongoing production test sequences for engineering deviations, quick iteration in the design cycle is very important at Zoox. Develop, document, and execute electronic board and system level testing to ensure adequate test capability for engineering and production builds that will scale with company milestones. Perform first article verification of prototype designs Develop test algorithms, automated test scripts, data acquisition and measurement systems, test fixtures, and data repository to support prototype and production testing with focus on repeatability and reliability Establish system and module-level performance and functional standards, ensure specification compliance Analyze test results, work with design team to identify test failure root cause, implement, and verify corrective actions and solution effectiveness Set up lab test infrastructure and coordinate facility installations Participate in overall EE board level design, development, and review work Work closely with R&D team to ensure test equipment/software/processes for new designs meet specifications for low volume manufacturing environment and to resolve issues encountered during test. Analyze manufacturing yield issues and field failures to determine hardware test coverage. Drive issues to closure and use lessons learned to implement preventive measures and to define manufacturing test strategy for new products. Provide training and support to engineering technicians to expand testing capacity. In this role you will design, develop, and validate Zoox component and vehicle level environmental test procedures. Integral to your success is an ability to participate in detailed design reviews to drive definition and validation of proper vehicle systems behavior and in program reviews to provide feedback on vehicle performance to release or hold product for production. You will work with the Trim and Lighting engineering team and external suppliers to develop and validate performance of components and systems and validation activities. RESPONSIBILITIES Create vehicle level test plans and conduct test trips according to plan and within budget Work with external and in-house test labs and proving grounds to lead testing activities Conduct vehicle level environmental tests according to Zoox test plans and test procedures Record & analyze data collected during testing Conduct vehicle and component inspections after test completion to discover issues generated during testing Write test reports to document results of testing and to communicate issues found during testing Create “concerns documentation” for corrective action resolution of issues identified during testing Drive closure of open issues with assistance of product engineer Conduct countermeasure validation testing to approve corrective action resolution Review component DVP&R’s plans QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (Other Disciplines considered with experience) with a minimum of 5 years of experience in reliability testing, including environmental and climatic testing. Candidates must have the ability and willingness to travel (Up to 25%) Experience in operating data acquisition systems (VBox, SoMAT eDAQ, LMS) for data collection of vehicle instrumentation with thermal couples/accelerometers/strain gauges/pressure sensors/load cells/LVDT/etc. desirable Ability to post process and analyze data using tools (nCode Glyphworks/Matlab) to validate system performance desirable Experience working with various test labs with broad contacts in the field of automotive testing Ability to operate and use diagnostic scan tools, scopes, meters, and other test equipment Experience with technical documentation in at least 1 full lifecycle vehicle programs to include DVP&R and DFMEA.
