Our first XPRIZE, the $10 million Ansari XPRIZE for private spaceflight, spurred an industry and created exponential breakthroughs. Since then we have provided over $140 million in incentives through these competitions. Each prize has created an industry-changing technology that brings us closer to a better, safer, more sustainable world.     

The use of incentive competitions, or prizes, to accelerate innovation goes back over 300 years, to when the British Admiralty launched the Longitude Prize in 1714 to find a better way to navigate our seas. In the years since, several well-known innovations have resulted from incentive competitions, including canning as a form of food preservation (a competition launched by Napoleon in 1795), modern plastics (the Billiard Ball Prize, 1863) and commercial aviation (the Orteig Prize, 1919).

Job Summary  

The Marketing Strategist, Prize Operations will provide strategic and tactical marketing support to multiple XPRIZE operations teams – the teams that launch and manage our XPRIZE competitions. S/he will report to the Chief Marketing Officer and have a dotted line to the prize lead(s). 

Responsibilities  

  • Responsible for marketing strategy and execution for all aspects of prize lifecycle (3+ years), including prize launch, events, social media, PR, branding, design and collateral. 
  • Partners with multiple internal and external stakeholders to achieve marketing goals. 

 Requirements  

  • 4+ years of experience. 
  • Experience with a startup or highly entrepreneurial company preferred. 
  • Deep knowledge of and experience with social media and digital marketing. 
  • Comprehensive knowledge of marketing concepts and principles.  
  • Ability to perform complex tasks typically following established processes.  
  • Experience leading and directing the work of other employees and having full authority for personnel decisions.  
  • Primarily focused on administering established policies and procedures but may have some impact on departmental budgeting, strategic planning, and procedural change.  
  • Bachelor's degree
