Pivot Bio is seeking a Director of Scientific Computing to develop and grow our computational biology team of software engineers, bioinformaticians, and data scientists. This position will build our capability to provide world-class data services and analytics to our R&D team, supporting our mission to revolutionize agriculture with microbial nitrogen fixation.   

What You'll Do:

  • Lead hiring and development of a world-class team of data scientists, data curators, software engineers, and bioinformatics scientists.
  • Prioritize tasks and projects to help our data team members service the needs of R&D users spanning our product pipeline from microbial discovery to agronomic data analysis.
  • Drive the roadmap and delivery of data services to Pivot Bio’s Research & Development organization.
  • Work with the leadership team to help define how data can meet and contribute to our strategic needs.

Skills/Experience Desired:

  • PhD with 8+ years experience or Bachelors / Masters with equivalent experience in an industry with biological or agricultural data.
  • Technical background in bioinformatics and/or biostatistics. Experience managing scientific software development projects.
  • Experience recruiting, managing, and project managing a technical data team.
  • Able to balance the need to provide consistent long-term data support with the need to innovate quickly.
  • Ability to communicate to and get buy-in from stakeholders throughout the organization.
  • Experience in a growth-stage start-up or building from a small team is preferred.
