Start Date: As soon as possible
Term:  Must be able to commit to a three-month term at minimum.
Schedule: Flexible, usually Monday through Friday with occasional weekend work for taking care of the plants in the greenhouse. Four or five eight-hour days.
Location: Hayward, California with occasionally required travel to Berkeley, California
Compensation: $19/hr

We’re looking for:

Pivot Bio is offering a full-time paid summer internship supporting plant experiments assessing soybean-rhizobium interactions and plant growth responses as a part of our collaboration with Bayer U.S. - Crop Science. Working with the Soybean-Rhizobia Team, our summer intern will work to complete an independent project to gain further experience in the area of beneficial plant-microbe interactions, molecular biology, plant physiology or other related fields. This will entail preparing the greenhouse for plant assays, scoring the morphological features, and harvesting plant tissues for DNA/RNA extraction, etc. for our rhizobial platform pipeline. 

Our team thrives on collaboration and communication, and these internships provide an excellent opportunity to work with a close-knit team while gaining hands-on experience in a biotech laboratory.  

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Current or recent college student, biology-related major preferred
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs and perform repetitive manual tasks, including standing for extended periods of time
  • Excellent observation and documentation skills
  • Superior communication and teamwork
  • Ability to efficiently follow standard operating procedures
  • Knowledge of plant care, microbiology, molecular biology, sterile technique, or prior greenhouse is a plus
