Pivot Bio is seeking a detail-oriented Research Technician to join our growing Soybean-Rhizobia Interaction Team as a part of our collaboration with Bayer U.S. - Crop Science.  As an integral part of this team, this position will assist in soybean plant care at our Hayward Greenhouse Facility. In addition to working on established protocols, this role will develop and improve current plant care practices and assays.

Location: Hayward, CA with travel once a week to Berkeley, CA Headquarters

Responsibilities:

  • Support the plant care needs for a growing team at Pivot Bio
  • Perform routine tasks such as watering/ fertilizing plants, scouting for plant pests, and monitoring conditions in growth facilities
  • Conduct various phenotypic assays in the greenhouse to evaluate microbial performance to increase yield potential 
  • Troubleshoot and assist protocol iterations, and proactively find ways to increase efficiency and automate processes as applicable
  • Prioritize daily tasks to meet the needs of all team members, and effectively communicate progress and results in a timely manner
  • Detailed documentation of observations

Qualifications and Experience:

  • BA/BS in biological sciences, plant biology, biotechnology, or related field, or AS/AA with 2+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience with plant care in a greenhouse setting, experience working with soybean plants is a plus
  • Comfortable with or willingness to learn standard microbiology and molecular biology techniques such as media prep, cell counting, gene cloning, and PCR
  • Attention to detail and ability to effectively perform tasks as directed by supervisor or according to an SOP
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Basic computer skills including data capture and entry
  • Able to lift 50 pounds
  • Must be able to work for 2-3 hours at least two Saturdays or Sundays a month
