The Engineering team is responsible for bringing our amazing innovations from the R&D labs to customers by designing and developing equipment, machineries, and hardware and software-based tools. We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer who will be responsible for all aspects of mechanical design and implementation. You will develop an understanding of the opportunities and challenges surrounding technical success in new environments and customize design solutions for specific customers.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the mechanical design and development of application equipment
  • Develop product specifications based on specific system and customer requirements 
  • Generate detailed CAD assemblies with appropriate subassemblies and custom parts and part drawings to fabricate and build new tooling and equipment
  • Perform necessary calculations or analysis to ensure design performance
  • Work with vendors to identify and source key components per design specifications
  • Build initial proof of concept/prototype systems
  • Work with test agencies to assure that designs meet regulatory approvals, codes, and standards
  • Collect and analyze performance data from equipment and automated processes in order to evaluate performance and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Proactively manage reliability and performance risk mitigation tasks in order to ensure the long-term reliability of designed systems
  • Generate design documentation, including Bills of Materials and assembly or user documentation
  • Write technical reports and present results during Apeel’s technical forums

What You Bring

  • A proven track record of designing and developing novel equipment and systems with unique value propositions
  • A background in mechanical engineering (at least 7 years of experience)
  • Experience designing agricultural or food processing equipment (or similar)
  • Familiarity with Sanitary/Hygienic design (preferred)
  • Expert understanding of CAD (preferably with SolidWorks)
  • Experience taking a design from concept through prototype to production
  • Experience with the assembly, testing, and troubleshooting of electro-mechanical systems
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics
  • Experience with the testing and certification of new designs to meet regulatory compliance requirements
  • Experience working with component suppliers to identify, validate, and source key components
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams to achieve common company goals
  • Experience performing complex root cause and corrective actions analysis
