Salary: $80,000 - $90,000

Reports to: Board of Directors

Organization Overview

CFROG is a non-profit, non-partisan, 501(c)3 organization dedicated to combating the climate crisis by working to shape the transition from fossil fuels to a carbon-free economy in Ventura County. We are committed to the transition to an economy that is sustainable, inclusive and promotes renewable energy. We work at the local level to build awareness of how fossil fuels impact our communities, and engage area officials, government agencies and other like-minded organizations to eliminate those impacts wherever possible. CFROG also operates as a watch-dog organization dedicated to ensuring that oil and gas operations in Ventura County are properly reviewed, permitted, monitored and compliant with relevant environmental and safety laws and regulations. We are searching for an entrepreneurial and ambitious Executive Director (ED) to lead us in growing our efforts to change energy policy at the county government level and collaborate with other groups to ensure a just inclusive transition to a sustainable, clean energy future.

Since our beginnings in 2013, CFROG has established itself as the go-to organization in Ventura County when it comes to climate action and fossil fuels. We have built a solid organization with an excellent reputation and are now poised to build a movement that will make Ventura County a leader in the elimination of carbon fuels which will change our future - we are looking for someone creative and innovative to help lead this historic transition.

Position Overview

The ED is the Chief Executive Officer of CFROG and is responsible for the organization's ongoing achievement of its mission and financial objectives. Working with a dynamic board and community advisors with broad expertise, the ED provides strategic direction for the organization and serves as its primary spokesperson among key audiences.

Key Responsibilities

LEADERSHIP:

• Lead the organization’s long-range strategy that achieves its mission and makes steady progress toward its benchmark goals.

• Provide leadership in developing program, organizational and financial plans with the board and staff, and implement plans and policies authorized by the board.

• Work closely with the board to ensure relationships with diverse stakeholders in all areas of the organization's work including governmental, community, media and business.

• Collaborate with community groups and organizations including other aligned groups.

• Represent enthusiastically CFROG's programs and point of view to government agencies, outside organizations and the general public.

FUNDRAISING:

• Work closely with the board to create fundraising plans and identify, cultivate and solicit major donors, develop annual appeal, build relationships with funders and supervise or write grants to private, corporate and government funders.

MANAGEMENT:

Staff and volunteers

• Manage CFROG staff and volunteers including recruitment, retention, release and relevant documentation.

• Maintain a work environment that attracts and retains diverse colleagues.

Financial and legal

• With the board, prepare annual budget and ensure that the organization operates within budget guidelines.

• Manage the day to day finances of the organization.

• Execute legal documents and contracts with designated officers.

Board of directors

• Work closely with the board chair, prepare board meeting agenda and packet, coordinate meetings, ensure staffing of committee meetings and support board recruitment and orientation.

• Manage board involvement, and support in carrying out organizational needs and priorities.

Communications

• Ensure that activities, programs and goals of the organization are publicized and the website is dynamic and informative.

• Ensure excellent, culturally sensitive communications - digital and print - to reach key audiences and that result in the achievement of programmatic and fundraising goals.

Qualifications

• Passion for CFROG’s mission.

• Bachelor’s degree required. Advanced degree desirable.

• Experience in non-profit or for-profit leadership, management and community outreach.

• Successful track record in fundraising/grant writing, program management and advocacy campaigns is highly desirable.

• Spanish language and cultural competence with Latino communities a plus.

• Excellent written and oral skills, with the ability to build consensus.

• Comfortable working with news media and making public presentations.

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

• High ethical standards.

• Sound judgment, problem-solving and decision-making skills.

• Current driver's license.
