The role of the Associate Manager, Technology Exploration, will be to coordinate, track, and execute on evaluation of emerging new technologies that bring value and increased operational efficiency to Indigo Carbon, and that can ultimately enhance grower profitability. The Associate Manager, Technology Exploration will work collaboratively with operational and experimental teams, to ensure that needs are tracked, thorough landscapes are conducted, and promising solutions are tested and validated. This individual will be passionate about Indigo’s mission, highly inquisitive, and eager to identify new technologies that support widespread sequestration of carbon in agricultural soils.


  • Become an expert on Indigo Carbon, its component teams, the function of Technology Exploration, and the Terraton Challenge Semifinalists
  • Serve as a “go-to contact” for colleagues in need of technology exploration information and for Terraton Challenge Semifinalists
    • Develop firm understanding of current testing and validation capabilities across Indigo
  • Own the development and maintenance of the technology exploration and partnerships pipeline, including hardware, software, data, and business model solutions, attending at least 1 conference per quarter to identify technology providers
  • Conduct landscapes of existing and emerging technologies that could solve a defined Carbon business need, identify most promising solutions, and develop a plan for evaluation in conjunction with relevant internal leads
  • Develop strong relationships with key stakeholders and collaborators to provide and compile updates, elicit feedback, coordinate technical and commercial evaluation, and determine appropriate next steps to achieve desired outcomes
  • Successfully coordinate the tracking and consideration of 100+ potential solutions that would bring value and increased operational efficiency to Indigo Carbon and that can ultimately enhance grower profitability


  • Rigorous researcher with strong analytical skills
  • Capable of exploring and developing expertise in new subject matter areas and prioritizing using 80:20 rule
  • Adept at preparing slide decks, developing narratives, applying frameworks, synthesizing and relaying complex information in a digestible and visually appealing manner across several types of audiences
  • Project management ninja - able to effectively prioritize and coordinate multiple complex projects with agility and flexibility, anticipate and react to needs, while reacting to shifting priorities
  • Collaborative and capable of working cross-functionally across teams
  • Able to communicate in a clear and timely manner (both written and verbal) with various stakeholders, especially academics, entrepreneurs, and business leadership
  • High tolerance to and ability to execute under ambiguous conditions
  • Grasp on business fundamentals and the ability to understand or learn about the experimental design process
  • Able to identify key diligence questions and map key technology and business risks for emerging ventures
  • Ability to deliver on deadlines, sometimes challenging ones

  • 2-4 years’ relevant work experience preferred in technology scouting, consulting, venture capital, start-ups, project management, innovation, incubators, or accelerators
  • BA required (technical fields preferred). BSc or Masters in agricultural science, environmental science, or a related field a plus
  • Strong network in the start-up, agricultural, and/or social entrepreneurship space preferred
  • Preference for a Boston or Memphis-based candidate, willing to be flexible on location. Willingness to work in East-coast time zones required
