The role of the Agronomic Data Technician would be to support Indigo’s Key Account Management (KAM) team with post-harvest data collection and yield uplift measurement activities. The Agronomic Data Technician would be primarily responsible for collecting yield data from a set of Indigo’s customers in Germany and ensuring smooth transfer of data for analysis and measurement.

The role requires flexibility in terms of working hours and mobility for a period of approximately three weeks between the period of July 15th and August 15th.

Responsibilities: 

  • Coordinating with the KAM to understand the project background
  • Coordinating with the KAM to learn about grower harvest schedules and prepare a data collection plan and travel logistics
  • Travel to the grower’s site on the day of the harvest in time to conduct the following activities:
    • Collecting the yield map dataset from the GPS harvester or directly from the grower. The files are likely to be in one of the following formats: shapefile, txt, ISO-XML, kml. The dataset could be for just the Indigo treated and control test plots or for multiple fields.
    • Recording the actual weight corresponding to the yield map dataset. This value could be the obtained from physically weighing the yield on a scale (post-harvest) and recording the value OR simply observing the value displayed on the yield monitor at the time of harvest.
  • Uploading the data into a common shared folder set up by Indigo

Competencies: 

  • Must possess an agronomic background and an understanding of GIS data. Experience with farm machinery (combine harvesters, etc.) and GIS software is preferred. 
  • Experience with handling and processing geospatial vector data formats including but not limited to shapefile, ISO-XML, KML, etc..
  • Must be equipped with a mobile internet enabled laptop and have access to a USB flash drive or similar data storage devices
  • Must be mobile and be able to travel overnight occasionally and work in different locations as required by harvesting plans and last-minute schedule changes. Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory driving record. If required must be willing to accompany the KAM team on their vehicles.
  • Extremely comfortable with handling messy data-sets from a variety of farm machinery equipment
  • Able to work independently without constant supervision

  • Expected to adhere to COVID-19 guidelines around health and safety.

 

Remuneration and Work Hours

€25/hour plus travel related expenses (reimbursed against original receipts).

Retainer fee of €250 (if services are not utilized)

Maximum: 40 hours per week (overtime may apply as per the regulatory threshold of under 20 hours per week)
