RoadPower is an early stage, NYC-based energy & mobility startup headquartered in Brooklyn. We’re developing intelligent road-based power generation platforms that supply hyper-local loads (e.g. facilities, EV charging stations, electrical infrastructure) with clean electricity regenerated from the otherwise-wasted kinetic energy recovered from decelerating vehicles. Think of them as high-tech ‘speed breakers’ that generate & store clean electricity.
The transportation sector wastes the most energy of any sector globally and - of the remaining energy that is actually put to use - a significant portion is wasted via braking and deceleration, making the sector not only extremely inefficient to begin with but incredibly wasteful as well. This is a major global problem we aim to solve with RoadPower. We will recover this energy and put it back to work in the form of clean electricity.
We are looking to hire a multidisciplinary engineering professional with knowledge and expertise in electro-mechanical hardware development and commercialization, preferably in the energy space (but any industry with a large hardware focus - e.g. automotive, machinery, utilities - would be sufficient).
This individual would join the founding team as one of the first hires and help develop and commercialize our RoadPower technology. As a small team, we're looking for someone that can wear multiple hats on the technology and engineering side and be open to getting involved on the business/operations side as needed.
Prior startup experience isn't required, but the passion to venture on a mission-driven entrepreneurial endeavor with an early-stage company is. We are hoping to connect with individuals looking to join the founding team of an innovative company on the verge of establishing completely new energy & mobility market categories and making a lasting global impact.
Were looking for someone with engineering skills and experience related to the following:
Electrical power generation systems and their various sub-systems and components (in the cleantech space would be a plus - e.g. solar pv, wind, geothermal, etc); Energy storage systems (electrical, mechanical, hybrid); Electric vehicle regenerative braking and EV charging system engineering; Embedded systems engineering related to power generation & energy storage; Grid interconnection of cleantech systems; IEEE 1547 and UL 1741 spec knowledge would be a huge plus.
Prototyping, fabrication and product development experience required. Ability to navigate and work in a machine shop/prototyping lab setting is highly preffered.
Mechanical engineering and design experience would be a huge plus (relevant areas: general automotive engineering and vehicle suspension systems; flywheel and battery energy storage system design; mechanical power transmission; hydraulic systems; deep understanding of mechanical dynamics/kinematics; 2D and 3D CAD; system modeling and simulation, MATLAB/Simulink or equivalent.
Individual should be well versed in planning, organization and management; People management and technical recruiting/team building.
Research and development grant writing experience would be a plus
