We are seeking a Legal Operations Manager who will play a critical role in defining and continuously improving workflows and processes for the Legal Department and assisting in optimizing how internal clients engage with the Legal team.  In your role, you will be responsible for administering current contract lifecycle management, matter management, IP portfolio management, and other legal systems and software, and for gathering, reporting, and analyzing data from legal systems to help develop operational strategies and best practices.  We are seeking an enthusiastic and results-oriented professional with solid experience and the ability to coordinate with cross-functional teams. To excel in this role, you will have a background in implementing and managing a variety of legal department tools and software and the ability to foster relationships within the Legal Department and across the company to achieve positive results.  

This position will report to the Deputy General Counsel and will be based in Goleta, California (upon office reopening). We are looking for someone to join us immediately.

What You’ll Do

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for internal clients, funnel legal requests, and manage work allocation for the Legal team.
  • Provide day-to-day guidance to internal clients pertaining to contracting, including use of Apeel’s contracting tools and templates. 
  • Identify and implement Legal Department tools to streamline new or existing practices, as well as manage, design, rollout, and train for new systems.
  • Regularly review and provide visualizations and reporting on key operational metrics for the Legal Department to inform decision making and performance management.
  • Manage legal vendors (including outside counsel) to optimize efficiency and help reduce overall spend.
  • Translate ideas & best practices to results through collaboration and knowledge sharing across the team (e.g., building centralized resources, processes, documentation, etc.) to ensure efficient use of prior experience.
  • Provide assistance on a variety of corporate governance matters (e.g., entity formation and corporate filings)
  • Manage other identified projects to support the strategic objectives of the Legal Department.

What You Bring

  • 8+ years of legal operations experience in growing or mature in-house legal departments. 
  • Strong experience in using various legal technology solutions; experience with one or more of Ironclad CLM, IP Folio, Xakia Matter Management, and Legal Tracker preferred. 
  • Proficient in quickly creating reports, charts, and presentations.
  • Experience with process improvement.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and successfully meet and manage multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to interact and build trust across all levels of the company.
  • Ability to take initiative, make key decisions, and work both independently and within a team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and experience with formal presentations.
  • Excellent computer skills (Mac environment); experience with BI/reporting tools (i.e. Sisense) is a plus.
  • Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
