Job Description

Climate change is water change and Natel’s mission is to deliver transformative climate change solutions focused on water resources. We do this through a combination of hardware and software. Our hardware solution is a fish safe, compact, high performance turbine that enables reliable renewable energy while protecting or enhancing watershed ecosystems. Our software solutions combine sensing data from satellites and advanced machine learning techniques to provide more accurate, timely and efficient solutions for forecasting water resources and monitoring landscape change at the watershed scale.

Founded by MIT alumni, we are headquartered in a beautiful office and manufacturing space in a repurposed hangar on the former Naval Air Station in Alameda, CA. The majority of our team works on a distributed / remote basis so work location is entirely flexible. We offer competitive salary, equity ownership potential, health insurance, and an opportunity to work in a fun and intense environment with highly skilled, creative people. We are recruiting results-driven and self-motivated candidates with proven leadership abilities.

This position is responsible for broadening awareness about our mission and solutions, creating and expanding our relationships with key stakeholders, promoting policies that enable and support growth of our business overall, and partnering with our leadership team on strategic opportunities. This position will nurture and grow our relationships with state and federal legislative representatives, public utility commissions, utilities and hydro fleet owners, water and energy associated agencies, policy advocacy and environmental organizations.

This position is expected to:

  • Manage communications activities to deliver newsletters, blogs, webinars and other collateral that spreads awareness and knowledge of Natel and Natel’s solutions
  • Coordinate with the commercial teams on marketing, particularly where marketing touches upon policy or regulatory driven requirements or opportunities
  • Manage our external PR consultant
  • Maintain website and marketing collateral
  • Monitor state and federal policies, grants, tax incentives and market tariffs
  • Develop functional strategies and specific objectives to influence public policy, coordinating closely with other senior executives, to facilitate our growth
  • Manage external lobbyists and consultants as needed

Qualifications sought:

  • Experience in communications and stakeholder relations within climate change, renewable energy or water industries. Policy experience desired, but not required.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as great listening skills
  • Commitment to team success, a strong work ethic and communicating best practices
  • Results-driven and detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
  • An entrepreneurial, proactive and resourceful attitude, with the ability to work independently and operate in an open and fluid environment; experience working in fast-paced, startup/growth stage companies a plus
  • Willingness to share creative and out-of-the-box ideas
  • Ability to travel when needed to state and national (mostly Washington, D.C.) meetings, conferences and networking events. Travel is expected to be reduced to a minimum or non-existent until the coronavirus pandemic is under control and a vaccine is widely available.

This role is for you if:

You want to be part of a dynamic company bringing to market a set of transformative climate change solutions.  You enjoy working with a team to create messages that resonate and build thought leadership and brand awareness; and that open new and expand existing markets. You have experience in initiating discussions and securing meetings for state and national policy changes to challenge outdated standards causing roadblocks to development.  You consider yourself a thought leader and are inspired by contributing to moving toward a carbon-free grid.  You find the process of turning new ideas into action exciting, not daunting.
