Job Description

The OVO Group’s purpose is to drive progress towards net zero carbon living. To reach Plan Zero, we need everyone to come together - not just as customers buying energy, but as members with a common goal. As part of this ambitious plan, our goal is to become the ‘Leading Employer in the UK’ by 2030. If you think you could be the talent we’re looking for, then come and join the adventure!

We launched in 2009 with a mission to change energy for the better. Since then, we’ve welcomed over a million members, planted a million trees, and set our sights on helping save the planet.

As a Group, we’re working to become a net zero carbon business by 2030, while helping our OVO Energy members halve their carbon footprints at the same time.

Green energy and technology are great tools to fight the climate crisis with. But it’s people power that will rewrite history.

So we’re building a zero carbon team inside and out. Of people who share our values, feel inspired by our mission, and want to make change happen. When you work for OVO, it’s not just a job. It’s the work of a lifetime. And we want the sharpest minds to help.

Up for the challenge?

Where in the world of OVO will I be working?

Reporting into the Senior Regulation Manager, you’ll be part of the Regulation & Compliance Team within OVO Retail’s wider Finance team.

It’s an exciting time to join the team following OVO’s acquisition of SSE Retail as we’re integrating both businesses, working to deliver an outstanding Regulation and Compliance service.

What will I be doing?

You’ll be fundamental in supporting the retail business with developing business positions on regulatory change, ensuring awareness of key upcoming changes to our obligations, and handling our responses to retail consultations and information requests.

You’ll also have a key role in promoting good practice and Standards of Conduct across OVO Retail, ensuring the retail team is well supported in adopting new regulatory changes in a compliant fashion with minimal risk.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Running the horizon scanning process to ensure awareness of upcoming changes to regulatory obligations and industry code developments.
  • Proactively engaging with external parties to influence proposed change which supports our strategic direction, builds business opportunities, and mitigates both commercial and compliance risks.
  • Managing responses to external queries from Government, the regulator and industry code bodies, including but not limited to consultations, RFIs, calls for evidence and open letters.
  • Owning our relationship with Energy UK, Citizens’ Advice and Cornwall Insight.
  • Keeping key partners updated on upcoming regulatory change and industry code developments, and build and distribute internal reporting.
  • Participating in industry working groups and external engagement representing OVO Retail.

Is this the job for me?

You’ll be a strong communicator with the ability to engage and influence both internal and external partners to achieve optimum results.

Life at OVO is pretty fast-paced and vibrant so you need to enjoy this kind of environment and have the desire to challenge the status quo.

Ideally you will have:

  • A strong understanding of UK energy markets and the policy challenges currently faced.
  • Detailed awareness of Ofgem Supplier Licence Conditions, the regulatory environment, industry code development and Ofcom regulation.
  • The ability to prioritise workload based on business priorities.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to support regulatory reporting
  • Strong organisational and time management skills to contribute to effective completion of regulatory reports in a timely manner

From us you’ll get*

  • An annual discretionary bonus
  • 4% of your salary to spend on flexible lifestyle benefits
  • 5% matched employer contribution to your pension
  • 25 days holiday + 1 for your birthday
  • And many more...

(*) Please note that certain benefits kick-in once you have passed probation which can be up to 6 months after your start date.
