Conservation International’s Brand + Communications division is looking for a creative and passionate Design Associate to join our small and collaborative team of designers. The design team is responsible for leading the effort to build and evolve Conservation International’s brand identity and visual vocabulary through thoughtful and impactful design solutions. With environmental issues at the forefront of today’s media we produce a wide variety of print and digital content to support the organization. This role reports to the Design Director and will help in developing products for internal and external audiences that will range in scale from short fact sheets to institutional campaigns. You should have a passion for branding, design and the role it plays in effective communication. You will interact with colleagues around the world of various levels so strong communication skills are required as projects and timelines will often be self-managed.


Design + Production

The Design Associate designs and produces smart, thoughtful, and compelling concepts for all aspects of the organization under the direction of the Design Director, including fact sheets, brochures, reports, event materials, displays, infographics and other products. The Design Associate will work directly with internal clients to be sure that all edits and changes are incorporated accurately. The Design Associate will prepare digital files for efficient delivery to print/production vendors. The Design Associate will review proofs and be sure that the Design Director reviews all creative work before it is approved for final production. The Design Associate should have a strong understanding of the Conservation International brand style and standards.

Digital Design

The Design Associate will assist with digital and social media to produce email, web and social media graphics as well as assist with any video or motion graphics.


The Design Associate designs presentations that follow Conservation International branding and design guidelines under the direction of the Design Director. The Design Associate works directly with various staff to establish the content of presentations, and work through edits. Presentations are needed for events that occur internally and externally and play an integral part in representing Conservation International’s brand over many audiences.


The Design Associate will help to manage the maintenance and displaying of Conservation International marketing materials, responding to staff requests for marketing materials; organizing and maintaining the Conservation International design archive. The Design Associate maintains creative services intranet presence.


Working conditions are in a normal office environment.



  • 1-3 years of experience in a design studio, agency or in-house creative department
  • Strong understanding of modern design requirements and best practices across all digital and mobile channels.
  • Expert knowledge of major design applications, especially Adobe applications (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
  • Experience in Microsoft PowerPoint and Apple keynote
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating conceptual work and a refined eye for design in both print and digital
  • Technical knowledge of printing production and prepress processes
  • Ability to work well under pressure and handle multiple projects simultaneously while providing high quality work
  • Team player with exceptional verbal and customer service skills
  • Strong organization and prioritization skills
  • Exceptional creativity, organization, enthusiasm, team spirit, commitment, and professionalism
  • Flexibility and willingness to work in dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Desire to learn about and support Conservation International’s mission


  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in graphic design or related field
  • Digital photography experience and photo retouching


  • This person must be organized and skilled at time management.
  • Tasks will range from graphic design and digital asset management to administrative.
  • The ideal candidate will also share our passion for environmental conservation, photography and design.
