Young Graduated Corporate Lawyer â–Ş Seeking New Opportunity Related to Climate Change & Sustainability
Brussels, 1200, BE
As I have just graduated with a Master’s degree in Law from UCLouvain (Belgium), I am looking forward to starting a career that would fulfil all the aspirations I developed during my years as a student. Over the course of my final year, I realised that I wanted to achieve something with greater purpose and hence to apply the knowledge I had gained so that I could be part of the answer to climate change, which concerns me a lot. I reached the climax of my reflection when I was writing my thesis. The purpose of the latter was to identify which European tax reform could make a difference from an environmental point of view. Before coming to the conclusion that a carbon added tax would be the most efficient option, I had the opportunity to immerse myself in the existing environmental agreements, from the first IPCC report to the Paris Agreement as well as from the EU-ETS creation to the new Green Deal. The emerging awareness about the climate condition I noticed during my research comforted me, but the discrepancy that nevertheless exists between what is stated in these agreements and what is accomplished in reality puzzled me. This is the reason why I would like to seize the chance to work with people wishing to have an impact on the current situation and willing to share their knowledge on this topical subject.

Currently, I am a third-year environmental engineering student accomplishing a BS at Michigan Technological University. In the time that I have spent in college, I have taken about 80 hours of major based classes such as Environmental Engineering Fundamentals and Measurement Analysis that have allowed me to obtain an in-depth understanding of my major. With those skills that I am constantly revising, I traveled as far as Peru to study Water Resource Management and Sustainable Practices through the University of San Ignacio de Loyola. After being competitively chosen from numerous entries of students around the world, I received hands-on experience at wastewater treatment facilities, hydroelectric facility, and water transport of the ancient Peruvians through the Andes Mountains while maneuvering through societal fragilities of environmental impacts. The end goal of the experience was to present a capstone project in collaboration with others to display our chosen environment issue and our proposal for an innovative change through data, analysis, and deliverables. That opportunity opened my eyes to how understanding a culture enables sustainable infrastructure and practices to take place while making meaningful change.

A product innovator and design strategist currently working on climate and sustainability. I'm obsessed with understanding how the 🌎 works, which defaults to relentless curiosity. I see a future that balances 3 pillars - people, planet, and profit. Sadly, the world is currently saturated with excess profit-only and shortsighted strategies that I'm dedicating myself to people-and-planet-first innovation. --- ✔ On a macro level, I ask questions like how might we create a harmonious systemic balance between humans and technology, while cultivating sustainable growth? ✔ On a granular level, I use tools like human-centred design, behavioural economics, and tech to deliver change. ❤ ideas around deploying empathy at scale --- I dream of a world where circular economy, sustainable design, and conscious decision-making is no longer celebrated, but rather, a social norm.

I studied software engineering in grad school and have followed Yelp, Inc. from when it was a small company with less than 30 employees, through its IPO, through becoming a mature company with a flattening growth curve. I have a deeply practical understanding of the software life cycle, and am skilled at software architecture, refactors, porting, interacting with the communities around open source projects, eliminating legacy code, long-term planning of a software product, and advising on what never to build in the first place. Two major, widely-used software projects I launched are mrjob (https://github.com/Yelp/mrjob) and TabCAT (https://memory.ucsf.edu/research-trials/professional/tabcat). I also have an extensive background in public policy—could come in handy! I'm looking for meaningful software engineering work, especially on a part-time or contract basis.
